On Sunday my wife and I spent three hours at our allotment planting most of the plants we received from Wiggly Wigglers, my shoulders and legs haven’t ached as much since riding to work several weeks ago. We had already planted about 1/3 of the plot, but the other 2/3 was left to the weeds and clearing this took most of the three hours.
We now have a few rows of cabbage, cauliflower, swede, leeks and probably something else I’ve forgotten. Hopefully these plants will survive the onslaught from the pigeons and slugs. We’ve covered the plants in mesh which should stop the birds and I’ll sprinkle pellets around the plants to take care of the slugs.
Here’s a photo of the new plants, they’re not easy to see between the massacred weeds, but in a few weeks I’ll post another photo and there should be a big difference, if they survive that is!

After Apple released the iPhone at a more affordable price, it lost some of its status symbol it had when it was only affordable by the better off. A German deveper created a unique application to replace this status by charging $999.99 for this app via iTunes. After 8 people bought it, 2 by accident, Apple pulled the app:

I’ve just received a winter vegetable delivery from Wiggly Wigglers for planting in my allotment. As I write this, unfortunately, it’s bucketing it outside so planting will have to wait. What’s also annoying as the rain will be helping the weeds grow even bigger thus making the job of clearing and planting more difficult when I finally get chance to plan the veg. Fortunately, the veg is sealed and will last for a week before planting. Fingers crossed for a dry day in the forthcoming week!

As part of moving from Virgin Media to Sky+we had to re-activate the BT line so that we could cancel the Virgin phone line. I phoned BT and arranged everything which appeared to go smoothly, we were told it would cost £124.99 to install, which I thought was a bit steep - but since I couldn’t find a BT box anywhere I guessed we had to bite the bullet and go ahead. A week later I received a phone call from BT saying that an engineer wasn’t required, so we wouldn’t have to pay the £124.99, which was good. A few days later we received another call, this time from abroad, reiterating the fact an engineer wasn’t required. However, we later received a letter saying an engineer was calling on the day originally agreed on the first phone call. My wife booked the afternoon off to be in when the engineer called.
On the day the engineer was supposed to call, I returned home from work to find the engineer had neither visited, or phoned to say they had done anything! Looking online at BT, the bill viewer stated that we were still going to be charged the £124.99. One email and a quick call from BT confirmed an engineer wasn’t required and the line was activated at the exchange, we were also being refunded the £124.99! I’m a little annoyed that I had to complain to get the charge for non-existing work to be refunded though. I wonder how many people have paid this when they don’t have to?

My Dad came down to visit at weekend and initally me and C were a little worried as to what activities we could do as the weather report from the BBC said heavy rain on Saturday and heavy rain with thunderstorms on Sunday; not the best forcast for going out and about. Fortunately, as is frequent these days, the BBC’s weather forecast was way off and we had two hot sunny days.
On Saturday we headed off to Dobbies world garden centre to look around and to get some lawn weed and feed as our bawn needs TLC. On route we stopped at the allotment at work to pick another few courgettes and peas and to show Dad the allotment. He was quite impressed with work and the allotment. We ate out and spent the rest of the day lazing at home, it was too hot to walk around too many places. In the evening we had a BBQ, once it was a little cooler, and played cards. Good food and good company.
On Sunday we had headed out to Bosworth Water, I figured on a hot day being near water will mean it would be a little cooler. It was still baking, but the gently stroll around the lake was enjoyable. I took my camera and managed to catch a few dragonfly’s darting around. The first was easy to catch as it was stationary:
The second was a little difficult to catch as it was very active and flying around all over the place, I set my camera on AI Servo and tried to keep up. The camera did its job and caught this large dragonfly on the wing:

Today we had Sky+ fitted at home. We’ve been with NTLVirgin Media for over two years now but their on demand/box/TV guide is just too flaky and we’re always having trouble with it. The current issue is the Date+Time on the box thinks it’s Monday 6:05pm, so when we try and change channel, it tries instead to set a reminder as the TV guide is actually correct.
I’ve not had chance to setup the favourites or anything and I’ll have to enable remote record so I can check the TV guide at lunch and set the box to record things I’ve been unable to watch since not being single.
Looking forward to live record too - a friend says they pause the box when they’re about to watch their favourite program and goes away for 15 mintues making coffee. That way when they get back they can watch the programme in catch up and fast forward over the breaks! Excellent idea.

Our alotment at work is coming on great (much weeding needed at the moment though) and out spud bucket has just produced a crop. The leaves had wilted so it was time to collect the bounty:

It’s not a massive crop, but enough for a meal or two!
